Hannah James

Hannah maintains a varied commercial, civil and public law practice. Since being called to the Bar, she has had experience in matters involving property law, consumer law, employment law, industrial law, personal injury law, human rights law, equity and general corporate/commercial disputes.

 

Hannah appears in the State and Federal Courts as well as Tribunals. Some recent examples include: 

  • Appearing (led by E Fitzgerald) in a District Court trial concerning proprietary estoppel and indefeasible title: Price v Robinson [2026] QDC 140.

  • Appearing (unled) in a QCAT application opposing summary dismissal where the issues concerned statutory interpretation of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).

 

Prior to being called to the Bar, Hannah served as an associate to her Honour Judge Rosengren of the District Court of Queensland. She received her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Sydney, where she was awarded the Dean's Scholarship. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University in New York (government major; emphasis on political philosophy).
 

In recent years, Hannah has contributed to multiple academic publications, both as a sole author and a co-author. These publications include the Griffith Journal of Law & Human Dignity, the Review of European, Comparative & International Law, the ANU Journal of Law & Technology (academic blog), and the LexisNexis Privacy Law Bulletin.

 

Hannah is also a passionate contributor to Chapter III, which is a quarterly publication produced by the Law Council of Australia.
