Andrew McLean Williams

Andrew McLean Williams was called to the Queensland Bar in 1992, and is further admitted to practice in New South Wales and before the High Court. He has been in private practice continuously since 1998 and has practiced widely in all areas of the law, appearing in all jurisdictions, including matters before the High Court. 

 

Mr McLean Williams has Masters qualifications in both Public Administration (UQ) and in Law (QUT) and has also completed a Graduate Diploma in Military Law, with merit (ANU). He is a Lieutenant Commander and Legal Officer in the Royal Australian Navy Reserve and has had extensive experience in various military inquiries (including before Chief of Defence Force Commissions of Inquiry, and as an Inquiry Officer) and before military courts-martial. Mr McLean Williams has been a regular sessional member of the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) since 2010. Prior to coming to the private bar in 1998, he was an academic teaching criminology and criminal law and also worked as a policy officer within government. In 2016, Mr McLean Williams was one of two counsel assisting the Queensland Parole System Review conducted by Walter Sofronoff QC.

 

Mr McLean Williams practices predominantly in the areas of personal injuries, administrative law (including judicial review, inquests, and inquiries), employment law industrial safety, veterans’ entitlements, and family law. He is on the panel of barristers regularly retained by the Workers’ Compensation Regulator (QCOMP)

 

Mr McLean Williams is a nationally accredited mediator and also a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP) through the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department, thus accredited to issue Family Law Act section 60I certificates. Mr McLean Williams is available to conduct mediations in commercial, employment, and family law matters.
